My objectives and goals seem to be ever-changing, but
over the past year I’ve felt more sure of my decisions (at least things I want
to and am willing to try!), giving me a bit more of a ‘direction’ for the next
few years of my life. Having recently
gotten involved in blogging and furthered my
knowledge and consequently interest in social media, I’m hoping to move to LA
by the end of the summer in pursuit of a social media-based position like I
have now. I’ve been itching to be in a
new place with new people, so I feel the move will be an exciting and possibly
life changing event!
Although my blog has a somewhat general
theme, I was excited about the ‘freedom’ my new blog allows me (versus the
pretty ‘strict’ theme of my fashion blog); I look forward to writing about my
experiences as a student, social media enthusiast & blogger.

Hi Kate:
ReplyDeleteI like your picture. It took me a while to find out that the picture has two images on one. A beautiful girl, and an old native indian (woman ? man?--I cannot tell).
Hi Huian,
DeleteSo sorry - which picture are you referring to exactly?
Hi Kate:
DeleteThe picture I mentioned in the last post was the first picture on right upper corner in your Blog--"About Me".
I encounted a problem when edited my Blog. When I first time added a slideshow on the right side from "Gadget", it worked very well; but when I removed it and "edit" a diffferent slideshow, it did not work. Then I tried to add the first slideshow back to it, it did not work either. Now I cannot add a slideshow in my Blog. Do you have any suggestion?
Thank you. Your help is very appreciated.
Huian
What an interesting life you lead. I have always wanted to travel somewhere out of the Country for a while but have always chickened out because I love being close to my family and friends. Did you travel to Central America through a program or did you just decide to go their on your own without any group?
ReplyDeleteKirstin,
DeleteIt was definitely a big 'leap' heading down to Central America. I think the whole process was eased by the fact that I was going down there with my friend, Trevor. We 'fantasized' for months about the trip, buying multiple 'Lonely Planet' travel books (check them out if you haven't - if you need inspiration these books will suck you in BIG TIME and they give amazing advice...it was basically like my 'travel bible' while I was mobile down there).
I actually planned on coming back to Washington and going to Western after the 2 months we planned on being there. The last spot (the island that got me 'stuck' there for nearly a year) I traveled to was called 'Utila.' It's a small island off the Caribbean coast of Honduras, with a population of about 6000 people (neighbor to the popular tourist island of Roatan), where life is about DIVING, DIVING, DIVING.
I initially didn't even want to go to Utila; my friends wanted to go there for a 24-hour beach party/rave called 'Sunjam' (absolutely wild and so much fun - a whole other story, though) which I didn't have a huge interest in...I especially didn't have a huge urge to learn how to dive, mainly because I was very gung-ho on saving my money for other things.
In a nutshell, I became hardcore hooked immediately, and basically fell in love with the island, diving & the ocean and my friends there (who I miss so much!). I ended up telling Trevor and my friends that I wouldn't be continuing on with them. I had my doubts as they left on the ferry, but those disappeared quickly and I've never regretted staying on the island, only leaving it!
But I could go on forever about traveling in Central America (and my desire or 'wanderlust' for other places in the world). If you ever want more inspiration, motivation or just to hear about cool things to do/places to go down there, I know the entire country and a ton of people down there way too well, so just let me know :)
Kate,
ReplyDeleteFrom the energy of your profile it really seems like you have a passion for writing and blogging. I'm extremely envious that you've picked a field of study that you are passionate about and can put your heart and soul in to. Good luck with your future endeavors and I look forward to hearing more. P.S. I'm very impressed with the layout, good job!
Hi Larry,
DeleteThanks for your kind words :) I still have my doubts about the area I've 'chosen' to be in (I actually can't even say I've chosen it as a career, since I really can't see myself ever picking one for life - I change my mind way, way too much for that), but for the time being, I do really enjoy it, as work and as a 'personal outlet' and goal.
Glad you like the layout - it's a pretty simple alteration of an already established Blogger template, so just let me know if you want help editing yours!
I can't recall if I did, but did I ever tell you that I grew up in Tucson Arizona? I love that city, and I still miss it greatly. 2 years ago was able to take my husband to Tucson, and we stayed why we had some truck work done. I had felt so connected to the earth, the desert in my home. My mom graduated from the University of Arizona as well, and she had quite a delightful time there is well. What I find amazing about Arizona, in the Sonoran Desert in general, are the multitude of colors once finds in the sand. Quite a unique beauty.
ReplyDeleteRebecca,
DeleteI want to say you did mention you grew up in Tucson but of course now it's escaping my mind as well. I had a hard time adjusting to the 'lack of water' there - I grew up in Seattle, surrounded by the ocean, and basically lived in the ocean while in Honduras, so I feel very connected to living near it or some body of water, but surprisingly, I found Tucson very beautiful in it's own ways.
I agree - the multitude of colors in the desert, sand and mountains there is seriously incredible. Tucson is pretty flat compared to the environmental variety that Seattle offers as a city, but the University of Arizona almost makes the town. That's another thing I enjoyed about my short time there, how 'college-townish' it was...it really made you feel connected as a student and representative of UA.
I made the drive from Seattle to Tucson and back a few times and that was also stunning - I never realized how beautiful Washington, Oregon and Idaho were. My mom and I stopped at Bryce Canyon one time on the way down - THAT was jaw-dropping. I have pics on my personal Facebook...maybe I'll post some of them on my Tumblr/here if you'd be interested in checking them out.
Amazing, that you traveled to Honduras. That is a great expierience to be able to teach others something that you have learned and an exciting one to have learned to dive.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, Elisha. It was a truly great experience and I hope to be able to have one like it again in the near future. If you or anyone you know wants to be certified in diving, all I need is a pool and willing students!
